An original. A multi-sectioned piece, much like early rags and marches. Capturing the flow of Holiday feelings, the celebration of today, the remembrance of yesterdays gone by, and a look to tomorrow.
I first heard this song in a high school Spanish class. A favorite of mine, this Spanish folk song is lovely and onomatopoeic. My attempt was to create a virtuoso showpiece molded after the famous caprices of Paganini.
An Appalachian melody collected by John Jacob Niles. A mournful feeling is set by the piano and the mood is one of reflection. Cadential points are ambiguous as the piece moves forward, building, turning rhapsodic as the melody is spun around, fragmented and then released.
From Bethlehem to Argentina. The inspiration for this arrangement came from hearing so many of Carlos Gardel’s tango masterpieces. Passion. Rhythm.Smooth and lyrical, this Latinesque setting presents this famous melody in a rhythmically delightful manner.
This age old song is transformed into something completely new, with a little help from Beethoven. Fitting this famous melody to the even more famous Moonlight Sonata of Beethoven was fun. There are many crescendos, soaring violin melodies, overlapping themes and passionate climaxes.
